The Requirements for Journeyman Plumber

It can be hard to decide on a career, as there are so many different choices out there. Your career is going to be something that you are going to be working at for the rest of your life, and so of course you want to choose a career that you are not going to grow bored with and which is going to be enough financially as well.

So you are interested in becoming a plumber but you are not sure of where to go. There are quite a few different plumbing companies that you will want to take into consideration and think of applying to here, and the Journeyman Plumbing Company is certainly one of the very best.

Before you can apply to the Journeyman Company however, you are going to want to be aware of what the Journeyman plumber requirements are, and they will be discussed here.

Education

Education is important if you want to learn about the Journeyman plumber requirements. You will have to have your high school diploma, but you can generally have your high school equivalency as well and this will be okay. They want to make sure that you have as much education as possible, and you should have gone on to college or university after high school to get a plumber’s certificate.

This is not always one of the definite Journeyman plumber requirements, so you will really need to speak to the potential employer in your area and see what they have to say about this.

Experience

Another of the important Journeyman plumber requirements is experience. You should have at least a bit of experience, but again this is not always one of the definite Journeyman plumber requirements, and will vary depending on the particular Journeyman center that you are applying to.

Internship

A great idea, after high school is to get an internship. This way you are getting education and experience at the same time, and will feel much more comfortable once you are finally ready to get an actual job. This way everything is not going to be new and you will be familiar with the way that everything works.

There are lots of different plumbing and similar companies that will allow you to come in for an internship, however you may have to go through your school to get the internship. Generally, schools will offer you extra credit if you are going through for an internship and so this is another benefit that you will want to be aware of.

Intense Training to Become a Plumber

People who desire to become plumbers must be ready to go through a vigorous process that covers at least two years before they are able to become licensed at the lowest level. Training to become a plumber involves both classroom work as well as the majority of the training which is in the field under the direct supervision of a Master or Journeyman plumber. Training involves learning the latest techniques and materials, such as digital plumber training in things such as automatic toilets and sinks.

Levels of Licensure

Before a plumber can become licensed, he must go through courses that give him training to become a plumber. However, these classes are not enough and are sometimes done while working full time as a plumber’s apprentice. A plumber’s apprentice works on real jobs with a Master or Journeyman plumber so that his hours can be approved in the four to eight thousand that he must put in before he will be allowed to take any licensing exam. During this time, the plumber’s apprentice learns the math, science and the reading of blueprints, as well as other basic skills that can be taught in the classroom. Out on the field, he is putting those skills to work and learning how to solve problems that plumbers face every day through the guidance of expert plumbers.

Once four thousand hours have been completed, which is about two years working full time, the apprentice is eligible to take the Tradesman licensing exam. If he successfully completes the exam, then he is able to practice plumbing on a limited level in most states without supervision. However, it is a limited licensure, so he is not able to supervise others or work on more complex jobs. In order to do that, he must continue his training to become a plumber at a higher level, the Journeyman licensure.

To be eligible for the Journeyman licensing exam, the Tradesman plumber must earn four thousand more hours under a Journeyman or Master plumber. This training gives him more experience, not only in the skills needed to be a Journeyman plumber, which also requires supervising apprentices and Tradesman plumbers. After earning the Journeyman license, the plumber can still go on to a higher level of training to be a plumber, which is that of a Master plumber. In order to be eligible for the exam, the Journeyman plumber must train for one more year under a Master plumber to be able to take the exam.

Variable Speed Pool Pumps - The Revolution in Pool Building

Incredible Swimming Pool Pump

Variable Speed Pool Pumps - The Future of Swimming Pools

By choosing the proper pump, Swimming pool owners can expect savings of at least $400/year.

Very few pool and spa owners understand the energy usage of their very own swimming pool pump.  In fact, it’s actually one of the largest electricity demanding appliances they have in their home.  That’s because most swimming pool pumps use very energy friendly single stage motors that run at 1HP and up.  In the past, energy supply has been in abundance and energy conservation efforts have not been considered - a norm in the pool and spa industry.

So how in-efficient is my pool pump? A recent study found that to operate California’s 1.2 million pools and spas requires approximately the same output as one nuclear power or two conventional energy plants (study by Davis Energy Group for Pacific Gas & Electric – 2004).  A huge impact on our current energy conservation efforts must stem from all the energy in-efficient pool pumps across the United States.  Arizona too has an incredible quantity of swimming pools per house, which is why Phoenix pool companies are switching to these incredible new pumps.

The solution? Pumps that work smarter, not harder.

In the past few years, swimming pool pumps and motors have been part of a huge energy-saving improvement effort.  The variable drive, variable speed pool and spa pump has revolutionized the pool industry and its efforts to save and conserve electricity.  Designed and manufactured to use less electricity, these new pumps are using permanent magnetic motors.  Permanent magnet motors, usually used in hybrid cars, provide about 30% energy savings over standard induction motors. As the pool operator programs this pump to work at the minimum required capacity for each pool task (heating, cleaning, filtration, water features, etc.) electricity reduction can be as much as 90%!

By operating a swimming pool pump at its slowest speed needed to complete a task, it will drastically cut the energy consumption (only because it requires less power to push water slowly than quickly).  Did you know?  On a typical pool task, if a pump can reduce the speed by 1/2, then the electricity will be reduced to 1/8.  Simply put, these new pumps allow the pool owner to program and “dial in” the pump speed to achieve the minimum electricity use.

Energy Savings of $620 to $1,350

According to Pentair Pool and Spa, their IntelliFlo® and IntelliPro™ variable drive pumps routinely reduce energy use up to ninety %, depending on the models and circumstances for average savings of $620 to $1,350 annually.  Based on normal pool and spa usage over one to two years, many pool owners are switching out their old pumps because a new variable drive pump will actually pay for itself.

Electricity delivery charges are even higher in Arizona, and with Phoenix’s huge pool count, this new swimming pool pump has become an absolute necessity for pool builders in Arizona when building swimming pools.  California’s revolution to eco-friendly products makes owning an power efficient pump even more necessary.

Specific Examples of how IntelliFlo pumps by Pentair can be used in your swimming pool:

First and foremost, this swimming pool pump can be used for an in-floor cleaning system booster pump, and it’s set at 3100 RPM, which is equivalent to a two horsepower swimming pool pump.  The same swimming pool pump can be throttled down to a half HP swimming pool pump to circulate & filter the water of the pool and spa.  With some easy computer automation, the same pump can be used as a booster pump for the hot tub therapies (imagine a slow speed therapy and a faster one – all from the same pool pump, and a push of a button!)  Another common use is the setting to control the speed of a fountain or pool water feature (it is also known to be used by high end residential Phoenix landscaping companies to manage the sound & flow of detailed landscape waterfalls or waterfeatures).  The IntelliFlo Pentair pump can be set for two speeds (actually more) -  giving the pool owner a low speed water feature for a relaxing evening outside on the patio, or you can turn the speed faster for MAX VOLUME for a family gathering!
